Khai Liew
http://khailiew.com/work
Khai Liew was born in Malaysia and arrived in Australia in 1971. His early pragmatism serendipitously led to a decades-long championing of Australian colonial furniture. As a specialist conservator, consultant and valuer, Liew salvaged and actively promoted this important component of Australian material culture. He curated many significant private collections, and public collections in state and national art institutions now showcase numerous definitive examples of Australian pioneer vernacular provided and conserved by Liew. Drawing on his cultural heritage and his experience and knowledge as a conservator, Liew creates work characterised by a fusion of old and new, regional and international, and is widely recognised for his unique and passionate contribution to the development of a modernist Australian design aesthetic. Ultimately, his oeuvre stands as a highly personal and distinctive statement about beauty and utility. Liew’s works have exhibited at institutions including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Design Museum London, and the Triennale di Milano. His pieces are represented in the public collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the Powerhouse Museum, the Art Gallery of Western Australia, and the Art Gallery of South Australia. Liew is Adjunct Professor, School of Art, Architecture and Design, University of South Australia, a Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia, and is an Approved Valuer for the AustralianGovernment’s Cultural Gifts Program.

Overcoming my procrastination with this project for a friend

I have been putting off doing this pastel painting for my friend, Anna, depicting her two beautiful Samoyed dogs (Panda and Donna). Both dogs have passed away within the last two years.
The painting will be my gift to Anna for all her kind generosity over the past 20 or so years.
I often get "artist's block" especially with painting representational subjects.
Wow, now that I have put these images side by side, I can see where I need to adjust the left dog's mouth angle. I just know Anna will spot any discrepancies with my visual accuracy of her dogs.

Went to my brother Steve and wife Debbie's 30th wedding anniversary today. I feel I am now in a happier space or place, since my special therapy sessions with Judith. This experience was bolstered by Bryan's extensive weekend group seminar hosted by Jude. Incorporated into to this was a beautiful healing trip, to Maleny in Queensalnd, a couple of weeks ago. This time last year I was struggling with depression and high anxiety and searching for a way out of the quagmire that it presented for me.

This will be my new catalyst for the next part of my journey in life and thus my art transitions.

Here are my first pourings using left over jar mixes from my previous AAD Specialisation (A) in painting.
Just using two colours and very diluted with pouring medium.
Colour 1 is Yellow and 2nd one is Magenta.
I have added a second separate panel to this and will proceed to add another two so four all up.
My inspiration with this work is through John Young. Here are some of his paintings.
My email to John Young....

Dear Theresa,
I am sorry for the very late response.
Unfortunately John is overseas at the moment and unable to respond. I will pass on your questions upon his return in a few months time.
We greatly appreciate your interest in John's work.
Kind regards,Ashlee

Hi John
I hope you don't mind me emailing you.I am a Visual Arts student at University of South Australia.I have been following your amazing art works especially the series of Day After Tomorrow and Passages paintings. They have been a very influential part of my own art research.
I was wondering if you would be able to tell me of any special "non-secret" processes that you uses to accomplish your effects.I am very interested in flowing fluids on surfaces eg. marbling on water.
I have "accidentally" created similar effects with PhotoShop and then transferred these onto canvas with oils.My lecturer Christian Lock last year described that you spin your works ... I may have misunderstood him. Is that right?Christian is currently in America on a Samstag scholarship so I am unable to speak to him more on what he meant.
I would be most appreciative of any assistance you are willing to give me.All the best to you and I hope maybe to meet you at one of your exhibitions one day.
Kind regards
Theresa Leach

Blog Site decisions ... way too time consuming for me!

Will it be WordPress, Jux, Ghost, Roon, Medium, Svbtle, Weebly or SquareSpace?
I spent most of today and a bit of last night on this and finally I think I will choose either Weebly or if I cease to be happy with it then possibly Wordpress will be my next choice. Some of these platforms are free trials for a set time and then you have to pay. I don't want that!
I already have a Weebly website.
